Asked at a press conference in front of the embassy building in Zagreb if the embassy had received any threats or a warning that an attack might be carried out, Ramsden answered in the negative, stressing that he could not comment on the incident as long as the investigation was under way.
He confirmed that one of the embassy staff sustained light injuries in the explosion which occurred in the embassy's post room around 7.30 am and thanked Croatian authorities for their quick reaction.
"I can confirm that an explosive device went off in our post room at around 7.30 this morning. Unfortunately, one of my colleagues was slightly wounded," Ramsden told reporters in front of the embassy building.
"The Croatian police immediately reacted and came to the scene and a criminal investigation is under way," the ambassador said.
He thanked the Ministry of the Interior for their help as well as Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and all other Croatian officials who he said had immediately contacted the embassy with messages.
