On that occasion, Petersen held a speech on his country's experience from its membership in the European Union.
Joining the European bloc in 1972, Denmark decided to become a part of the European architecture and play a more important role in the world, he said, commenting on the advantages of EU membership.
Petersen said he hoped Croatia would enter the EU as soon as possible for the sake of its own progress and because of possibilities which EU membership offers in exerting more influence on European foreign and security policy and environmental protection.
