Representatives of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and national minorities said they would support the government-sponsored stressing that the bill foresaw a limited and strictly controlled use of GMO and sufficient and efficient measures which will help Croatia stay an environmentally clean country.
The Croatian People's Party (HNS) advocates thet the bill be sent to "permanent reading", namely that all competent bodies, including parliamentary committees, meet once a year to discuss new information and establish whether or no amendments were necessary.
The majority of parties oppose the bill and ask that a ban be put on the use of GMO in the environment.
By adopting this law, Croatia will give up on sustainable development, said deputies who advocate that Croatia be declared a country free of GMO.
Parliament resumed its session with a debate on the government-sponsored bill on distress law.
