During the talks with Serbian Justice Minister Zoran Stojkovic, the accused Gvero decided to turn himself in to the tribunal in order "to help the people and the state", according to the minister who gave an interview on the topic with the Television B92 on Monday.
The Serbian government, that pledged to give all necessary guarantees for Gvero's release pending trial and all necessary financial assistance to him and his family, said in a press release that it "highly appreciates General Gvero's decision", describing it as moral and being in the interest of Serbia.
The indictment accuses Gvero of war crimes committed in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
