BELGRADE, Jan 25 (Hina) - The only obstacle to a positive assessment
of the feasibility study for the state union of Serbia and Montenegro is
cooperation with the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague, and in that regard
Serbia and Montenegro is required to make considerable rather than only minimum
progress towards full cooperation, European Union Enlargement Commissioner
Olli Rehn said in Belgrade on Tuesday.Speaking to reporters after he met the state union's Foreign Minister
Vuk Draskovic, Rehn said he was aware that this was a difficult issue for
Serbia and Montenegro, but that the Council of Ministers had to tackle it. This
is the only competent institution to do something, Rehn said, calling on the
Council to prove as soon as possible that it could make significant progress
towards full cooperation with the UN tribunal.
Draskovic said he hoped that in the next several days the Serbian
government, its prime minister Vojislav Kostunica and all political factors in
the country would demonstrate maximum responsibility before their people, state
and future, and take steps that must be taken.
The EU official also met Serbian President Boris Tadic and Serbian
Deputy Prime Minister Miroslav Labus.
