ZAGREB, June 28 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Wednesday held talks with a delegation of the Croat National Council from Subotica who informed him of the current position of the Croat minority in Serbia, the President's Office said in a statement.

The delegation stressed the importance of enabling minorities to exercise their rights, adding they were not satisfied with the implementation of the agreement between the two countries about the protection of minorities because Croats did not yet have their representative in Serbian political bodies, the statement said.

They also stressed that had requested that a new Serbian constitution included a regulation on affirmative action concerning minorities.

Mesic said he would advocate that Croatia increases its support, including financial, to Croats in Serbia.

The meeting also focused on cooperation with the Serb community in Croatia.
