ZAGREB, June 6 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Tuesday received former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak for talks on Croatian-Israeli economic relations and foreign investment in Croatia, Mesic's office said in a press release.

The two concluded the potentials of bilateral economic relations were not being used.

Barak, who is now active in private business, said major world investors were interested in investing significant amounts in Croatia. He underlined the importance of the rules of the game being known from the start and not changing. He said potential investors must be sure that they would not be affected in case of any change in either the central or local government in the country they invested in.

President Mesic said the Croatian Agency for Investment Stimulation had considerably improved the conditions for potential foreign investors and told Barak he would welcome any project of investing in Croatia, notably in tourism, shipbuilding, and the timber industry.

Mesic and Barak also discussed developments in the Middle East. Barak, who headed the Israeli military intelligence, said the world was approaching a watershed at which it would have to decide whether to go on through negotiations and agreements or through conflicts.
