SARAJEVO, July 14 (Hina) - Roman Catholic bishops in Bosnia and Herzegovina have urged local Croat politicians to take a clear and determined stand on the model of state reorganisation and to advocate keeping the status of local Croats equal to those of the other two ethnic groups, the Archbishop of Bosnia, Cardinal Vinko Puljic, said in Banja Luka on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters after a two-day session of the Bishops' Conference of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Puljic said that the session focused on the political situation in the country in the light of lack of equality among the country's three constituent peoples.

"As for equality, it is very important what position the elected leaders of the Croat people will take," Puljic said, voicing regret that there were still no clear positions on the matter.

Puljic recalled his attendance at a recent meeting of Croat representatives, called by the incumbent Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zeljko Komisic, and his advocacy of a solution that would grant equal rights to all.

The Banja Luka conference also focused on the issue of return of Catholic Croats to their prewar homes, with Banja Luka Bishop Franjo Komarica saying that the situation in his diocese was still very unfavourable. According to available data, 12 years after the war, only five percent of the diocesan prewar Catholic community now live there.
