Croat member to chair Bosnia's collective presidency in next 8 months

SARAJEVO, July 6 (Hina) - The Croat member of Bosnia-Herzegovina's tripartite presidency, Zeljko Komsic, on Friday took over the chairmanship from the Serb member, Nebojsa Radmanovic, who chaired the presidency for the past eight months.

The regular rotation in the office was carried out in accordance with the Constitution and the Statute of the Presidency at Friday's session in Sarajevo.

Commenting on the presidency's work in the past eight months, Komsic said that some disagreements had occurred as a result of the current organisation of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

In June, Kosmic and Bosniak (Muslim) member of the presidency, Haris Silajdzic, entered a conflict with Radmanovic after sending a letter to the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon insisting on the implementation of measures designed to neutralise the results of the 1995 genocide in Srebrenica when Serb forces had cleansed that eastern Bosnian enclave of non-Serb population. Komsic and Silajdzic referred to a relevant ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

On Friday, however, Komsic, thanked Radmanovic for his work as the presidency's chairman in the past period saying that the Serb member had carried out his duty "wisely and with political tact".

If all of us had the same standpoints, this country would not have needed three members in the presidency. One would have been enough, Komsic said in response to reporters' comments that there were some arguments among the state leadership's members.

The office of Zeljko Komsic issued a statement reading that during his term in office as the presidency's chairman, Komsic will attach particular attention to the position of the Croat people in Bosnia-Herzegovina with the purpose of preventing any attempt to transform this nation into an ethnic minority.
