SARAJEVO, July 10 (Hina) - The possibility of having persons
convicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia
serve their sentences in the countries of the region is a matter of the future,
chief prosecutor Carla Del Ponte said in Sarajevo on Tuesday. She
made the statement during talks with Bosnia and Herzegovina Foreign Minister
Sven Alkalaj, who agreed it was still not the time to have convicts serve
sentences in their home countries.
Del Ponte agreed that a whole series of terms had to be met before
sending convicts to prisons in the region, the Bosnian Foreign Ministry said in
a press release.
She added, however, that that would be positive for reconciliation in
the region.
