She made the statement during talks with Bosnia and Herzegovina Foreign Minister Sven Alkalaj, who agreed it was still not the time to have convicts serve sentences in their home countries.
Del Ponte agreed that a whole series of terms had to be met before sending convicts to prisons in the region, the Bosnian Foreign Ministry said in a press release.
She added, however, that that would be positive for reconciliation in the region.
