The market sprang higher early in the session, racing through the previous day's high of $1,368. But the run-up was quickly checked by trade and producer selling, dealers said. Arbitrage selling of New York positions against the London market kept the pressure on late in the day, but prices worked their way back toward the highs by the closing bell. Front-month March climbed $18 a tonne on the day, to $1,374, having ranged from $1,356 to $1,377. Second-position May gained $17, to $1,397, while the remaining contracts finished $15 to $16 higher. While the slower pace of Ivorian arrivals compared with last year continues to underpin the market, traders said aggressive selling by Ivory Coast and other producers into the rallies would make significant upside progress difficult. If it managed to fill a chart gap from $1,375-1,378, March would next take aim at the psychologically important $1,400 level. Major support was seen at $1,350.
