"There is a lack of fundamentals and the market is extremely rangebound," one trader said. "People are already saying it is going to be like this until the end of the year and they are losing interest." Benchmark March futures were down $3 a tonne at 1221 EST, at $1,386, ranging from $1,389 to $1,381. May was $1 firmer at $1,410, while the rest were $2 to $7 lower. Volume was exceedingly thin, at an estimated 1,615 lots as of 1200 EST. On the charts, near-term support was seen at $1,372-$1,376 in the March contract, while resistance was pegged at $1,388-$1,392. The Brazilian Trade Commission Comcauba said Bahia cocoa arrivals were 91,217 bags in the week ending December 8 compared with 93,618 bags in the corresponding week last year. To date, total arrivals for the 1996/97 crop were 2,341,197 bags against 1,786,201 bags in 1995/96, it added.
