UN REPORTS COMBAT HELICOPTER OVER CENTRAL BOSNIA

SARAJEVO, April 11 (Hina) - British UN peacekeepers sighted a helicopter firing several air-to-ground missiles at targets in the Donji Vakuf area of central Bosnia. UN sources in Sarajevo were unable to confirm who the helicopter belonged to, saying only that it had come from north of Donji Vakuf. The town of Donji Vakuf, about 100 kilometers north-west of Sarajevo, was taken by Bosnian Serb forces at the outset of war. After recent military operations in the Kupres and Vlasic areas it is now half encircled by the Bosnian army and Croat (HVO) forces. UN military observers reported that Serb forces yesterday made a failed attempt to break through Bosnian army lines west of Zepce, central Bosnia. In the Mt. Majevica theatre, northern Bosnia, UN military observers have registered 362 detonations in the past 24 hours. A Bosnian army 2nd Corps source said that a 22-day Serb offensive had been stopped yesterday and that the Bosnian army had managed to keep its new positions around the Stolice television relay. The UNPROFOR command in Sarajevo confirmed that the Bosnian army 5th Corps and the local HVO still controlled a large part of Mt Gola Pljesevica, south-west of Bihac. But maps shown to reporters at UNPROFOR headquarters indicated recent shifts in positions there.
