SARAJEVO, April 7 (Hina) - UN peackeepers and Bosnian Serbs
exchanged fire several times overnight in the Sarajevo area.
A Serb mortar attack on a UN observer post prompted the
UNPROFOR commander to call in NATO war planes to establish where
the attack had been lauched from. The planes buzzed the Sarajevo
area but did not engage in combat actions.
French UN soldiers responded to a Serb attack on a Mount
Igman road, UNPROFOR spokesman Pierre Chavancy said in Sarajevo
today.
Serbs used a 20-mm cannon in the attack on UN vehicles on
the road, and 'blue helmets' returned fire. The exchange lasted
from 10.45 p.m. until midnight. +
A UN minibus was also on the road at the time of the
attack, but so far there have been no reports of casualties.
At around 9 pm Serbs fired three shells at central Sarajevo
and another two at Kosevo, UN observers said.
Kosevo hospital authorities confirmed that two civilians
had been wounded in these attacks.
Chavancy said that a Bosnian army soldier and a civilian
had been killed and two other civilians had been wounded in
yesterday's Serb mortar attack on the Sarajevo suburb of Hrasnica.
He added that the attack had been carried out from the heavy
weapons exclusion zone around the city.
