Baranja said on Thursday it was ready for radical opposition to the

European Union.#L#
The association's leader, Antun Laslo, said at a news conference in
Osijek the EU was exerting extreme pressure with the aim of "making
Croatia a rubbish dump for its agricultural and livestock products".
"This is about a plan of the big to destroy Croatia's natural
resources and healthy food which can be produced in the best possible
way only in Croatia," Laslo said.
The association's secretary, Stanko Zdravcevic, wondered if the
acceptance of increased agricultural and food imports was "the price
of admission to the EU".
"If that is the case, the farmers of Slavonia and Baranja will lobby
against admission to the EU because they do not want to join the EU as
paupers," Zdravcevic said, pointing to the importance of creating
conditions to make domestic farming competitive before admission to
the EU.
