An expert group in charge of monitoring bovine encephalopathy
suggested on February 20 that the ban on the import of cows and beef
from Finland and Austria be lifted, given that the two countries have
the lowest incidence of mad cow disease.
The ban on beef imports remains in force for 22 countries. Those are
Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, Israel,
Japan, Canada, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Germany,
Poland, Portugal, Ireland, the United States, Slovakia, Slovenia,
Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
