Results of exit polls from four major cities in Croatia

ZAGREB, May 15 (Hina) - According to exit polls conducted by the Pulsagency at 17.00 hours and broadcast on Croatian Television, the topcandidate on the Social Democratic Party (SDP) slate for Zagreb, MilanBandic, will be able to form a government in the capital by himself,the Branimir Glavas slate is leading in Osijek, and a coalition headedby the SDP will win the local elections in Split and Rijeka.
ZAGREB, May 15 (Hina) - According to exit polls conducted by the Puls agency at 17.00 hours and broadcast on Croatian Television, the top candidate on the Social Democratic Party (SDP) slate for Zagreb, Milan Bandic, will be able to form a government in the capital by himself, the Branimir Glavas slate is leading in Osijek, and a coalition headed by the SDP will win the local elections in Split and Rijeka.

Shortly before the local elections, Branimir Glavas was expelled from the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ).

Bandic and his coalition partners -- the Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) and the Croatian Pensioners' Party (HSU) -- won a total of 46,97 percent of the vote in Zagreb, namely 27 of the 51 seats in the Zagreb City Council and they can form a government on their own, Croatian Television cited the results of the exit poll.

The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and its coalition partners won 11.9 percent of the vote, the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) won 10.17 percent which the Croatian Peoples Party(HNS) won 8.85 percent. According to the poll, independent slates of Tatjana Holjevac and Boris Miksic also passed the electoral threshold by winning 5.78 and 5.13 percent of the vote respectively.

The slate led by independent candidate Branimir Glavas achieved the best results in Osijek by winning 27.24 percent of the vote and nine seats in the City Council. Zlatko Kramaric of the Liberal Party (LS) follows with 18.47 percent of the vote and six seats in the council and the HSP with 14.5 percent and four seats. The SDP won 11.81 percent of the vote and three seats in the city council and the HDZ won two seats with 8.25 percent of the vote. The HSU also passed the lection threshold. The Osijek City Council has 25 chancellors.

The SDP-led coalition won 29.02 percent of the vote in Split and 10 seats in the city assembly while the HDZ-led coalition won 18.54 percent of the vote and six seats in the council. The surprise of the elections in Split is the slate of entrepreneurs led by former basketball player Zeljko Jerkov who, according to exit polls, will have five seats in the city council. The Croatian Pure Party of Rights (HCSP) also passed the electoral threshold and won two seats. Former SDP member Slobodan Beros also won two seats. The Split City Council has 25 chancellors.

The SDP-led coalition won 47.8 percent of the vote and 19 seats in the Rijeka City Assembly. The HDZ follows with 15.91 percent of the vote and six chancellors. The Primorje Gorski Kotar Alliance and partners are third with 11.43 percent of the vote and four chancellors and the HSP with 6.25 percent, thus winning for the furst time two seats in the city council. The Rijeka City Council has 33 chancellors.
