USKOK indicts ex-mayor of Molve and two businessmen for financial wrongdoings

Autor: mses
ZAGREB, July 14 (Hina) - The Croatian Office for Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crime (USKOK) on Wednesday issued an indictment against Ivan Kolar, Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) presidency member and former member of parliament, and against the owner and the director of "Jata" company, Andjelko Tos and Zarko Radic respectively, on suspicion that they had damaged the budget of the northern municipality of Molve by more than HRK 5.6 million.

The 61-year-old Kolar, a former long-standing HSS parliamentarian and head of the Molve municipality, is indicted for abuse of office just as Radic. Tos, the private construction company's owner, is indicted for having incited them to perform financial wrongdoings.

The municipality, while its mayor was Kolar, and the Jata construction company concluded several contracts, although there was no legal basis for it, resulting in payments to the company.

All the three suspects were kept in custody in May until witnesses were interviewed. They were released after being detained for 25 days.

Kolar was at the helm of Molve, near the northern town of Djurdjevac, until the last local election when Stjepan Fosic of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) won the polls.

HSS leader Josip Friscic announced Kolar's suspension as soon as the scandal broke.
