The short-listed nominees were already proposed by the committee. However, a dispute was raised after the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) expressed its position that new circumstances required new procedure after at its last session the committee concluded that the selection of a new judge would be conducted in compliance with the new Constitution.
The committee today made a decision that the procedure would not be renewed and that the ongoing process should be completed with the appointment of the judge from among the two nominees at the parliament's plenary session, regardless of whether one of them receives two-thirds support from MPs or not.
