Parliament hasn't elected Constitutional Court judge

Autor: mses
ZAGREB, July 9 (Hina) - Despite some announcements, the parliament on Friday did not elect a Constitutional Court judge. After the parliamentary committee on the Constitution ruled that the election requires a two-third majority, the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) demanded the renewal of the procedure of nomination, the committee's chairman Vladimir Seks told reporters.

Last week, the committee proposed two candidates for this post -- Nevenka Sernhost and Antonija Kovacic.

Seks recalled that Judge Sernhorst won all votes from the 12-member committee, including the SDP.

Following the motion by the SDP and the Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS), the committee today concluded that Constitutional Court judges will be elected by two-third majority vote, in accordance with new constitutional provisions.
