Thus, the Zagreb County Court panel of judges on Wednesday upheld the proposal of the defence teams for new expert opinion on the matter. However, the defence teams asked for the engagement of the mechanical engineering faculty at Zagreb university, but the panel presided by judge Jasna Smiljanic decided to engage the faculty of transportation sciences. Therefore the trial will be adjourned until 4 October.
According to the indictment, Roncevic and Bacic purchased 39 Iveco military trucks for 34.4 million kuna through a direct deal with Eurokamion, or 10.2 million kuna more than those offered by MAN Importer, which was the cheapest bidder. The defendants claim that cheapest bidder did not meet criteria stipulated in the tender documentation for the purchase of trucks. They refer to the criteria about vehicles' capacity.
The defence teams contested the competence of expert witness Vinko Ugrina who yesterday tod the court that none of the vehicles would have met the required criteria, had the criteria been strictly applied.
