Autor: mses
ZAGREB, July 6 (Hina) - INA has been fined HRK 525,000 for having caused an ecological accident in the bays of Bakar and Kvarner on the northern Croatian Adriatic coast in 1996, when 56 cubic metres of gas oil was spilled in the sea, according to a final ruling of the Rijeka Municipal Court on the fine against the leading Croatian oil and gas group.

The outcome of the 14-year-long judicial proceedings, launched by the state prosecutor, is that the company has to pay HRK 525,000 as compensation for the environmental disaster which affected the flora and fauna in the two bays.

The ecological accident happened on 27 March 1995, contaminating 16 kilometers of the coastal stretch.

The municipal court in Rijeka passed the verdict on 22 November 2007, and the verdict was confirmed by the county court on 14 April 2010.
