"The market is telling us that is is evenly priced with the fundamentals," Sharon Johnson, an analyst with Frank Schneider and Co Inc, said. She said today's export and sales report was not strong enough to inspire new buying but not weak enough to prompt a selloff. Lower prices could stimulate exports and allow domestic mills to do some pricing, Johnson said. The U.S. Department of Agriculture put sales for the week ended Dec 19 at 91,500 480-lb bales, bringing total commitments to 3,807,800 bales. Exports for the 1996/97 season were pegged at 6.2 million bales. The March contract ended 0.46 cent lower at 75.07 cents per pound, traded 75.60 to 75.04 cents. The back months finished 0.40 lower to 0.25 firmer. Volume was estimated at only 5,000 lots. Thursday's official volume was a mere 2,564 lots. 301120 MET dec 96
