Benchmark September surged to a session high of $1,650, up $49, before scale-up trade selling and light profit-taking trimmed gains. September closed $38 a tonne higher, at $1,639. Spot July jumped $44, to $1,595, while the back months finished up $38 to $45. Cocoa prices headed higher at the opening, lifted by commission house buying, dealers said. Upward momentum accelerated after the September contract breached near-term resistance at $1,626-$1,628, touching off buy-stops. 201041 MET jun 97
