SARAJEVO, Aug 6 (Hina) - Complete chaos reigns in a part of western
Bosnia controlled by renegade Moslem forces loyal to local leader
Fikret Abdic and U.N. commander for Bosnia-Herzegovina Lt. Gen. Sir
Michael Rose had an opportunity to see it for himself during a
visit to the region on Friday.
A UN official, who spoke to a Hina reporter in Sarajevo on
condition of anonimity, said that the Abdic forces were completely
disorganized and demoralized after suffering a defeat in battles
against Bosnian government forces at Pecigrad two days ago.
The UN official estimated that at least a hundred soldiers had
been killed in the battle of Pecigrad and that Bosnian army forces
had captured about 780 Abdic followers.
He said that Lt. Gen. Rose had met Abdic in Velika Kladusa on
Friday and that Abdic had announced his troops would continue
fighting to the last man. The UN official added he doubted that
Abdic was able to secure obedience from his troops and to prevent
his army from plunging into complete disarray.
