CARDINAL KUHARIC MEETS CROATIAN PRIME MINISTER AND ZAGREB MAYOR

ZAGREB, Feb 4 (Hina) - The Zagreb Archbishop, Cardinal Franjo Kuharic, Saturday received Croatian Prime Minister Nikica Valentic and Zagreb Mayor Branko Miksa, the IKA Catholic News Agency reported. Cardinal Kuharic, Prime Minister Valentic and Mayor Miksa discussed social welfare, problems of displaced people and refugees, humanitarian activities and the opening of soup-kitchens. Prime Minister Valentic was interested in the problems the Roman Catholic Church encountered, and possibilities of the Government's assistance to the Church in solving them. Valentic said the Government would allocate 400,000 kunas to the reconstruction of the Zagreb Cathedral, one of well-known landmarks and historical monuments in the Croatian capital. Miksa added that the Zagreb city would give another 200,000 kunas for this purpose. He informed Cardinal Kuharic of the construction of several church facilities subsidized by the city. Miksa spoke of the question where the Zagreb Archdiocese's treasure could be suitably maintained. Cardinal Kuharic was interested in the question whether the Zagreb city was preparing adequate programmes for the city's youth. (hina) mms 041837 MET feb 95
