ZAGREB, Jan 31 (Hina) - The UNHCR today began evacuating 130
injured and ill people from the UN-declared Gorazde 'safe-haven' (a
Moslem enclave in east Bosnia surrounded by Serbs), UNHCR
spokeswoman Alemka Lisinski said Tuesday.
The UNHCR is taking the evacuees to Sarajevo where they'll be
admitted to the Kosevo hospital.
The first group were taken out of Gorazde this morning and the
second group left around noon, Lisinski said. The evacuation was
carried out by road, and the evacuees were not expected to arrive
in Sarajevo until this evening because of poor travelling
conditions, she said.
"The start of this Medevac had been planned for the beginning
of January," Lisinski said, "but we've only just now succeeded in
getting all sorts of necessary clearance particularly from Bosnian
Serbs.
