WASHINGTON, Jan 12 (Hina) - The Croatian president's special
envoys, Ambassador to the UN in Geneva Miomir Zuzul and Croatian
Information Service director Miroslav Tudjman, held talks in
Washington Wednesday evening with US Undersecretary of State for
Political Affairs Peter Tarnoff.
The Croatian officials were also to meet Senate Republican
majority leader Robert Dole on Thursday.
They informed US officials of Croatia's decision on
terminating the UNPROFOR mandate, emphasizing Croatia's support
for a peaceful settlement in its occupied areas.
All aspects of the Croatian decision and the possibilities
of joint efforts in seeking a peaceful solution were considered.
Both sides hoped a model for a peaceful settlement woud be
found after UNPROFOR's departure.
The US side showed understanding for Croatia's position.
