UNPROFOR ACTS IRRESPONSIBLY IN ITS OIL SPILL MESS

ZAGREB, Jan 11 (Hina) - The Croatian Government's Office for relations with UNPROFOR and European Union Monitor Mission (EUMM) said in a statement today that it had not received exact data on the environmental disaster between December 23 and 24 at the Bribirsnica creek spring, UNPA Sector South, Croatia. The incident saw 34 tonnes of oil leak from a UN Kenyan tank. Despite the Office's demands, UNPROFOR officials refused to allow experts to arrive at the scene, saying repeatedly that they could not guarantee their safety, the statement said. UNPROFOR officials were given equipment and the means to clean up the scene. But there has been no response on whether the equipment and means have even been used. We have been unable to fulfill necessary cooperation with UNPROFOR, since UNPROFOR representatives behaved irresponsibly in this incident, the statement stressed.
