SARAJEVO, Dec 16 (Hina) - Former American President Jimmy Carter
might arrive in Sarajevo Sunday to start a new mediating mission,
according to the city's UNPROFOR spokesman, Aleksandar Ivanko.
He confirmed that UNPROFOR would offer the former American
president logistic and administrative support for his mission, even
if Carter was not acting as a UN representative.
UNPROFOR officials have not consulted the Bosnian Government
on Carter's Sarajevo arrival, Ivanko said, explaining that it
wasn't necessary. He repeated that the UN welcomed any initiative
which could restore peace in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Many Bosnia-Herzegovina officials, including President
Izetbegovic, have expressed reservations towards new peace
initiatives, saying that only the Contact Group plan could
establish a long and lasting peace in Bosnia.
