ZAGREB, Sept 12 (Hina) - The Croatian People's Party (HNS) and
the Croatian Independent Democrats (HND) formed an alliance on
Thursday and called on other centrist parties to join their ranks
in the next election.
At a press conference in Zagreb, the HNS and HND presidents,
Radimir Cacic and Stjepan Mesic, signed a letter of intent on
establishing a centrist alliance under the temporary name the
Croatian Popular Centre (HNC).
"The aim of this alliance is to draw up and put up for a public
debate a comprehensive programme of resolving political, economic
and social difficulties and problems in the field of culture and
social ethics in line with the best solutions from transition
countries and Europe in general," the letter said.
Mesic said that the aim of the alliance was to create a
democratic alternative, bring all centrist parties together and
change the balance of power on the political scene.
