Jalsovec added that yesterday's return of teachers, which was
the result of requests made by the Ministry of Education and Sport,
the county office for education and culture and himself, was an
attempt to overcome the existing problems in the school.
In a letter, sent on 10 October to the Croatian government,
county authorities and UNTAES officials, some 20 exiled teachers
warned that they were faced with 'provocations and inappropriate
behaviour of pupils', who 'led by some teachers were taken out to
the streets, demanding a Serb school, Serbian language, Serb
professors and directors'.
The exiled teachers also stressed that their right to work,
home, education and the use of their mother tongue and script was
threatened.
