OSIJEK, Oct 13 (Hina) - The Osijek-Baranja County displaced persons
association decided on Monday to forward a letter to Croatia's
ombudsman Ante Klaric which points out that it is necessary to
protect constitutional rights of the Croatian displaced.
The association was prompted to such a step by Klaric's
initiative to judge whether some provisions of the law on the
temporary take-over and management of specific property were in
compliance with the Croatian Constitution. Following Klaric's
initiative, the Constitutional Court annulled the law provisions
under which Serb refugees had not been able to move into their own
houses temporarily accommodating Croat refugees.
During Monday's discussion in Osijek, the displaced said that
Klaric's act protected the rights of Serb refugees', and asked the
ombudsman to protect equally the constitutional rights of all
Croatian citizens. The exiled Croats asked to be enabled to return
to their homes as well.
The displaced will also request the UN Transitional
Administration in the Croatian Danube area (UNTAES) to enable them
to visit all cemeteries in the area on All Saints' Day (November 1).
