and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday
issued a statement expressing support for Biljana Plavsic as legally
elected president of Republika Srpska. #L#
The statement, signed by the head of the OSCE Mission, Robert
Frowick, and issued Wednesday evening in Sarajevo, said that OSCE fully
supported efforts made by President Plavsic to perform her duties in
line with the Constitution of Republika Srpska.
OSCE believed that President Plavsic was doing all she could so
that the Dayton agreement could be implemented but was encountering
resistance of some elements in the leading Serb Democratic Party, the
statement said.
Those were the same elements which opposed the peace agreement from
the moment it was signed. OSCE holds that it is necessary to support all
those who make efforts aimed at the establishment of peace as agreed on
in Dayton, during the current political conflicts in Republika Srpska,
which broke out during the preparations for the municipal elections, the
statement said.
