ZAGREB, June 10 (Hina) - On request of the Croatian Foreign Ministry,
the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) would
send observers at Croatia's 15 June presidential election, and a
possible 29 June second election round, OSCE said in a statement on
Tuesday.
The observer delegation, to comprise about 100 international
observers from OSCE member-countries, would be coordinated by Kare
Vollan from Norway and his deputy, Mark Powers-Stevens from Great
Britain.
Observers would be organized in two-member groups, to be deployed
throughout Croatia. Seven observers, monitoring the pre-election
process, were already in several parts of the country, the statement
said.
Monitoring would be based on samples, as it was impossible to
observe all activities all the time, the statement said, pointing out
that international observers could make only an estimation of the
election.
On election day, observer groups would visit many polling stations.
During the counting of votes, they would stay at one polling station
from the beginning of the counting to the final results. Results
attested this way would be compared to official results, OSCE's
statement concluded.
