HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES ADOPTS CONCLUSIONS ON AGRICULTURE

ZAGREB, Nov 27 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament's House of Representatives on Friday unanimously adopted conclusions on improving the situation in agriculture, submitted separately by the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party and the Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS). The Government will thus have the tasks to present a new model of subsidising agriculture as soon as possible, draft short-term and long-term production schedules, and apply measures to decrease the import and increase the export of agricultural products. The HDZ conclusions contain 17 items, and request that a unified model of financing agriculture be drawn up without delay, by establishing a unified agrarian fund, or a state land bank. By the six-item report by the HSS, the Government is obliged to draft and motion an overall analysis on the situation in family- owned farms. The Government must also submit to the Parliament the goals and measures of the process of directing the development and transformation of family-owned and peasant farms. When drafting these motions, the Government will have to take into consideration the adjustment of the agricultural system to the conditions and criteria of the European Union and the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
