ZAGREB, Nov 5 (Hina)- The House of Representatives on Thursday concluded a debate on a motion for the establishment of a commission for the investigation of possible abuse of authority, anticonstitutional and illegal activities by intelligence and security services. The debate was concluded in the absence of 31 MPs from six Opposition parties who made the motion. The HDZ and the HSP voted against the motion. According to HDZ MP Drago Krpina, the walk-out by the Opposition betrays its motion as sensationalist and manipulative and meant to "spread panic" rather than to disclose the facts, as claimed by the motion. If it was really committed to the truth, the Opposition would take part in the debate, said Krpina, who referred to the lock as "the Washington group". There is no ground for the establishment of an investigative commission as the surveillance has not violated the law, the HSP whip Vlado Jukic said. And there are no indications that the surveillance in question ran contrary to the law, Jukic maintains. Ivan Gabelica of the HCSP believes that the establishment of an investigation commission per se was not contentious, but that in this concrete case there was no legal ground for it. The session of the House of Representatives will resume on Friday. (Hina) mr mm
