DINKO AND NADA SAKIC'S CASES SHOULD BE TREATED AS SEPERATE

( Editorial: --> 9736 ) ZAGREB, Sept 11 (Hina) - News articles regarding investigative procedures at the Zagreb County Court against the former Jasenovac concentration camp commander, Dinko Sakic, are more often mentioning his wife and the impression being gained is that proceedings have been commenced against her. Esperanza Tambic de Bilanovic-Sakic has still not been extradited to Croatia. The president of the Zagreb County Court and Mrs. Sakic's attorney have described the articles as incorrect. Branko Seric, Nada Sakic's attorney said that he could not approve of these actions especially since it has never been decided to tie the two cases together. "There are two entirely different criminal offences in question which occurred in two different places" Seric said, adding that one offence took place in Nova Gradiska and the other in Jasenovac. He said that these were "two entirely varying procedures with differing facts and descriptions". It is not appropriate to the Dinko Sakic trial to mention Nada Sakic as the investigating proceedings are against him and not her" said Seric. Zagreb County Court President Miroslav Sumanovic also considers that references to Nada Sakic in the proceedings against Dinko Sakic are incorrect. Sumanovic believes that the matter is one of incorrect reporting as he considers that the judge has not questioned witnesses regarding this issue. He is compelled to keep within the facts of the case which are limited by facts and for which extradition was granted. The investigating judge has the right to interrupt witnesses while giving evidence if their response goes beyond the material in question, said Sumanovic. He stressed that this was a question of journalists' ethics and their manner of reporting over which he had no influence. He also reminded that the investigative procedure is closed off for the public. (Hina) sp 111609 MET sep 98
