CHIEF UN CIVILIAN OFFICER IN BH VISITS TRAVNIK

( Editorial: --> 5910 ) TRAVNIK, August 25 (Hina)- After visiting a Catholic educational center that is about to be open at the building of the archdiocesean (Jesuit) grammar school in Travnik, the UN civil affairs co- ordinator for BH Elizabeth Rehn met with the prefect of the central Bosnian canton Adnan Terzic and his deputy Ivan Saric. Mrs Rehn stressed the need for more intensive efforts by the canton for a better equipment of the cantonal police and expressed a hope that the investigation into the murders in Travnik would bear more fruit. Rehn told her hosts the Office of High Representative would sponsor a group of prominent legal experts who will monitor the functioning and independence of the jurisdiction. Yet, Rehn highly commended the judiciary in the area of Travnik. Prefect Terzic and Deputy Saric requested a more intensive involvement o the International Police (IPTF)in the investigation of the murders of eight Croats in Travnik in 1997 and 1998. Prefect Terzic emphasised that the involvement of IPTF had already made an impact, as evidenced from the progress that had been made in the investigation of the murders of policemen Perica Bilic and Anto Valjan. Deputy prefect Saric asked for the improvement of the poor plight of local Croats regarding the return of refugees and reconstruction of their houses, as well as for transformation of the Travnik municipality into a union of urban municipalities.
