ZAGREB, Oct 7 (Hina) - The Serb National Council (SNV) will on Thursday send a letter to the President of the Republic, Parliament President, and the "Opposition Six" parties, demanding that they state their position regarding the
representation of the Serb minority in the Sabor, SNV president Milorad Pupovac told reporters in Zagreb today. "The ruling party is not and cannot be the only one responsible for resolving the issue of Serb representation in the Sabor", said Pupovac, adding he expected the Opposition Six to state its position regarding the issue. The SNV will not give up proportionate representation nor will it accept any proposal which is less than the guaranteed and already acquired rights of the Serb minority, which are envisaged by the Constitution, he said. The SNV also demands that prior to drawing up voters' lists one should establish the number of Croatian Serbs who left Croat
ZAGREB, Oct 7 (Hina) - The Serb National Council (SNV) will on
Thursday send a letter to the President of the Republic, Parliament
President, and the "Opposition Six" parties, demanding that they
state their position regarding the representation of the Serb
minority in the Sabor, SNV president Milorad Pupovac told reporters
in Zagreb today.
"The ruling party is not and cannot be the only one responsible for
resolving the issue of Serb representation in the Sabor", said
Pupovac, adding he expected the Opposition Six to state its
position regarding the issue.
The SNV will not give up proportionate representation nor will it
accept any proposal which is less than the guaranteed and already
acquired rights of the Serb minority, which are envisaged by the
Constitution, he said.
The SNV also demands that prior to drawing up voters' lists one
should establish the number of Croatian Serbs who left Croatia and
are currently living in Yugoslavia. Pupovac believes it is
necessary to allow those Serbs to participate in the elections in
line with the criteria applied to refugees.
The president of the Serb Independent Democratic Party (SDSS),
Vojislav Stanimirovic, added Serb refugees should be enabled to
vote outside of Croatian diplomatic offices in Yugoslavia. Many of
them cannot travel to Kotor or Subotica, where Croatia has
diplomatic offices, Stanimirovic explained.
Assessing that the authorities are unable to adopt an adequate
programme for solving the housing problems or the problem of
property repossession of Croatian Serbs, Pupovac announced the SNV
would draw the attention of the international community to those
issues.
