ZAGREB, Sept 8 (Hina) - In the interest of creating conditions for
the organisation of a fair election, representatives of the
Opposition Six will return to all bodies of the Croatian National
Sabor, Opposition Six coordinator Vlado Gotovac said on
Wednesday.
Representatives of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Croatian
Social Liberal Party (HSLS), Croatian People's Party (HNS),
Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS) and the Liberal Party (LS) have
not been participating in the work of parliamentary bodies since
last year because their proposal on establishing a commission of
inquiry to probe into the work of intelligence services was
rejected.
Gotovac said the requests which were the reason why opposition
representatives left all parliamentary bodies cannot be met
because of technical reasons in the last parliamentary sessions,
and to insist on them would not be productive.
According to Gotovac, opposition representatives would probably
return also to the Croatian Radio-Television (HRT) Council,
because despite the fact that it was not a parliamentary body, the
Council still represented a parliamentary obligation.
Following today's meeting of the Opposition, Gotovac said the
Opposition Six stuck to their election bill which is in
parliamentary procedure. The Opposition will continue debating the
Croatian Democratic Union's election bill in line with the requests
the Opposition has made so far and in line with their stands which
are known to the public, Gotovac said.
The Sabor now has to decide whether the Opposition election bill
(mixed election system) goes into the second reading, he added.
