Talks on new Bosnian government resume after summer break

MOSTAR, Aug 25 (Hina) - The negotiations on the formation of a new Bosnian state government resumed on Wednesday after a summer break, with Bosnia and Herzegovina waiting for the appointment of the new Council of Ministers since the general elections held last October.

The leader of the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HDZ BiH), Dragan Covic said on Wednesday evening that the talks had been renewed and emphasised that the Croatian bloc would insist on a Croat filling in the position of the country's prime minister.

"Apart from the PM, Croats should be designated another two ministries. The Serbs should get four ministries and the Bosniaks three," Covic said.

In the current make-up of the Bosnian Council of Ministers, Bosniaks are at the helm of four ministries, there are three Croat ministers and Serbs representatives are the Prime Minister and two more ministers.

The president of the (Bosniak) Party of Democratic Action (SDA), Sulejman Tihic, said that after Wednesday's bilateral talks, a meeting of leeaders of major Bosniak, Croat and Serb parties should ensue so as to reach agreement on the formation of the new government.
