ZAGREB, May 31 (Hina) - Around 14,000 people die annually from the consequences of smoking, Croatian Health Minister Zeljko Reiner said at a press conference held on Monday in Zagreb, on the occasion of the World No Tobacco Day (May
31). According to research conducted by the World Health Organisation (WHO), smoking kills four million people every year or one man every eight minutes. Results of the research show that the number of smokers is decreasing in developed countries, and increasing in countries in transition. In Croatia, every third person is a smoker. The authorities have launched various actions with the aim of decreasing the number of smokers, including a bill drawn up by the Health Ministry, which is in parliamentary procedure. The Health Ministry today organised in the City Hall the eighth conference "Health or Smoking". The event was held under the motto "You, too, can stop smoking".(hina) rml
