Your words and advocating peace, as a statesman, supreme head of the Catholic Church and the highest moral authority, serve as a path sign in the quest for permanent peace in this traditionally unsettled area," Tudjman's message said. "With your life and pontificate you actively contributed to historic changes in today's world and civilisation, offering comfort and hope to people, of which you can be justly proud ," Tudjman said.
