VIROVITICA, May 24 (Hina) - Some 200 peasants from Virovitica-Podravina County in northern Croatia on Monday morning with tractors and farming machines blocked access to Terezino Polje, a border crossing with Hungary, in protest at
the fact that they had not been paid for their agricultural products, especially sugar-beet. Prefect Djuro Decak informed the protesters the county authorities had requested the government to urgently find solutions that will lead to payments for the sugar-beet. If Dutch company "Cosun", the majority owner of the sugar refinery, continues to postpone the payment, the government must protect domestic production and demand "Cosun's" withdrawal from the refinery, Decak told the peasants. A meeting has been agreed for Tuesday with the Dutch company's representative in Croatia Branko Salaj. Decak promised a meeting with government representatives for this week. The peasants freed the
