ZAGREB, May 18 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament House of Counties on
Tuesday decided to postpone a discussion on bills on the
privatisation of Croatian Telecommunications (HT) and
telecommunications.
MPs unanimously accepted for the agenda of the 29th session, which
began on Tuesday, include a resolution on freeing Croatian reporter
Antun Masle who was apprehended by Yugoslav military authorities in
Montenegro. The resolution was motioned by MPs of the Croatian
Social Liberal Party (HSLS).
The postponement of the discussion on the privatisation of the HT
was suggested by the Croatian Government, but it was harshly
criticised by MPs of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), deeming the
motioned text should be removed from the agenda because, they said,
nothing important would change in eight days.
The privatisation of the HT would be the first in a line of sales of
the public sector, which cannot be done without a privatisation
strategy, that is, a clear determination of goals and purpose of the
sales, Zlatko Komadina of the SDP said.
To make the discussion on the bill conditional upon a discussion on
strategy is unnecessary, it is a camouflage of some other plan,
Zvonimir Puljic of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ)
said.
He said this was used to postpone the sale of this profitable
company for a time when the SDP deems would be most favourable for
them.
Suggesting the House of Counties should discuss the resolution on
freeing Antun Masle, Zarko Katic of the HSLS recalled Masle was in a
military prison in Podgorica for six weeks now, and actions
undertaken so far to have him freed yielded no results.
The Parliament is a place to discuss the issue, Katic said.
MPs of the Croatian peasants' party (HSS) are not present at the
29th session. In a letter to the president of the upper house, the
HSS MPs informed peaceful protests were being held on Tuesday by
peasants, and they would join in.
They requested the House discusses a report on the implementation
of Parliament decisions on agriculture.
At its 29th session, the Croatian parliament House of Counties will
discuss some 15 items.
