ZAGREB, Feb 8 (Hina) - A Croatian parliamentary commission of inquiry was unable to determine on Monday who is the author of a document called "Lisica" (Fox), which according to Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) leaders was
intended to break the party four years ago. Eight witnesses were to testify, all current and former HSLS members, but only six did. These were Jozo Rados, Goran Granic, Hrvoje Zoric, and Branimir Levacic, all current HSLS members, and Tonci Tadic, who joined the Croatian Party of Rights, and Bozo Kovacevic, one of the founders of the Liberal Party. ZAGREB, Feb 8 (Hina) - A Croatian parliamentary commission of
inquiry was unable to determine on Monday who is the author of a
document called "Lisica" (Fox), which according to Croatian Social
Liberal Party (HSLS) leaders was intended to break the party four
years ago.
Eight witnesses were to testify, all current and former HSLS
members, but only six did. These were Jozo Rados, Goran Granic,
Hrvoje Zoric, and Branimir Levacic, all current HSLS members, and
Tonci Tadic, who joined the Croatian Party of Rights, and Bozo
Kovacevic, one of the founders of the Liberal Party.
Ivan Bozicevic failed to appear at the hearing. According to the
testimonies the commission of inquiry heard today, he might be the
one to know the most about the authors of "Lisica". Bozicevic failed
to appear because he had allegedly been summoned inappropriately.
Levacic said he did not know who the author of the document is. He
said however that in late 1994 he had been invited to a secret
meeting at an antique shop in Gunduliceva Street in Zagreb. The
shop's owner was Miroslav Rozic.
Levacic said Bozicevic then read and distributed the typed, 11-page
"Lisica" plan to those attending. According to Levacic, he
immediately realised the document was aimed at the destruction of
the HSLS. He was not invited to any future meetings since he did not
want to take part in that kind of party conflicts, he told the
commission.
Upon returning from the "Storm" military operation a year later,
Levacic gave the document to Kovacevic, then HSLS secretary
general, who then gave it to HSLS president Drazen Budisa.
Goran Granic said he did not know who drafted "Lisica", but believed
it might have been Bozicevic. He said "Lisica" had no relation at
all to "Jazavac" (Badger), a strategy on HSLS's political activity,
which he confirmed he wrote himself. He could not say however
whether the document presented to him today was that text, given
that he had not preserved the original.
Kovacevic too said Bozicevic might be, if not the author, the co-
author of "Lisica". He said that some words mentioned in the
document were typical of the current director of the daily
"Vjesnik".
According to Kovacevic, rumour has it that Bozicevic used to visit
the Croatian President's quarters and had contacts with people in
the police.
Kovacevic was unable to corroborate the claim that the ruling
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) or one of the secret services had
incited a "very strong group" of dissatisfied people to destabilise
the HSLS. He did say however that the claim was induced by the fact
that some of those dissatisfied had been awarded by joining the
HDZ.
