ZAGREB, Jan 14 (Hina) - Croatia received firm support from the
United States considering the UN Security Council resolution on
Prevlaka, Croatian Foreign Minister said on Thursday.
On Wednesday evening, Granic and Croatian Defence Minister Pavao
Miljavac held separate meetings with U.S. special envoy Robert
Gelbard.
I am very pleased to be able to inform you of the American support
given to us as regards the UN Security Council resolution on
Prevlaka (Croatia's southernmost peninsula), Granic told
reporters ahead of Thursday's government session behind the closed
doors.
However, Granic warned, in the UN Security Council there is
opposition to American stands.
We also considered the resolution of border issues with Bosnia-
Herzegovina and in this regard talks of joint diplomatic and expert
commissions of Croatia and Bosnia should continue with the full
"dis-engagement" of any kind of military or police forces in order
to create good conditions for calm negotiations between two
neighbourly and friendly countries.
Granic added that he and Gelbard had discussed overall Croatian-
U.S. relations and their promotion in the political and economic
fields.
Defence Minister Miljavac and Gelbard talked about the development
of bilateral relations, training and education, the supplying of
equipment as well as of possible preparations for a Croatian
delegation's visit to the United States.
Miljavac said they had also discussed the issue of Bosnian
Presidency Croat member Jelavic's appointment of generals, and
both the Croatian side and the U.S. envoy voiced satisfaction with
the fact that SFOR (NATO-led Stabilisation Force) and Jelavic had
reached agreement.
The Miljavac-Gelbard talks focused also on Croatia's cooperation
with the International War Crimes Tribunal.
Miljavac stressed the importance of the constructive approach, in
particular, considering the 1995 "Storm" operation, prepared and
conducted according to all modern military principles.
We are in favour of co-operating with the Hague Tribunal, provided
that there is the real approach and not any sort of prejudgement,
Miljavac added.
