BRUSSELS/ZAGREB, Nov 8 (Hina) - Croatia and the European Union initialled an agreement on trade in textile products in Brussels on Wednesday. The agreement, initialled on behalf of the Croatian government by Assistant Economy Minister
Olgica Spevec, means full liberalisation of trade in textile and textile products for Croatia, the cancellation of quantity limits and customs duties for the import of Croatian textile products in the EU. It also introduces a system of double checking, i.e. the issuing of EU import and export licences for Croatian textile products. The agreement, which goes into force on January 1 2001, is a precedent in relation to similar agreements concluded between the EU and countries undergoing the procedure of admission to the EU because it skips the usually gradual process of liberalisation in textile trade, the Croatian Economy Ministry reported.(hina) rml
