VIROVITICA, June 29 (Hina) - Despite a police ban, the co-ordination of societies of Homeland War veterans in Virovitica-Podravina County will hamper the traffic on the Podravina Highway from 04.00 to 07.00 pm Friday. They will set up
a blockade at the gas station in Orahovica, protesting over the refusal of Croatian War Veterans Minister Ivica Pancic to apologise to Darko Bestek, for asserting (after receiving the findings of a relevant commission) that Bestek, who is the President of the county association of disabled war veterans (called HVIDR), was not a 100 percent disabled war veteran. The co-ordination said on Thursday its members were aware that they would break the law by the blockade and that they could be fined between five and 20 thousand kuna, but they did not intend to give up plans for their protest rally. They called all who would like to protest against Pancic's stance to join them
VIROVITICA, June 29 (Hina) - Despite a police ban, the co-
ordination of societies of Homeland War veterans in Virovitica-
Podravina County will hamper the traffic on the Podravina Highway
from 04.00 to 07.00 pm Friday.
They will set up a blockade at the gas station in Orahovica,
protesting over the refusal of Croatian War Veterans Minister Ivica
Pancic to apologise to Darko Bestek, for asserting (after receiving
the findings of a relevant commission) that Bestek, who is the
President of the county association of disabled war veterans
(called HVIDR), was not a 100 percent disabled war veteran.
The co-ordination said on Thursday its members were aware that they
would break the law by the blockade and that they could be fined
between five and 20 thousand kuna, but they did not intend to give up
plans for their protest rally. They called all who would like to
protest against Pancic's stance to join them at the blockade
tomorrow.
On the other hand the leadership of the association of disabled war
veterans in the town of Virovitica (local HVIDR in the town) today
assessed that the impeding of the traffic on a state road "will be
detrimental and counter-effective."
"We regard that protest rallies have to be held only at sites which
local authorities determine for such purpose, in a dignified manner
and taking in to consideration that courses of normal life are not
hindered," the town's organisation said in a statement it released
after Thursday's extraordinary session.
